Transfer News: RB Leipzig set price for Manchester United target Christopher Nkunku
According to German news outlet BILD (h/t The Sun), Manchester United have been told the transfer fee it could take to sign RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku in the near future. He has been sensational for his side ever since leaving Paris Saint-Germain after failing to get minutes there.
Nkunku still has two and a half years left on his current deal with Leipzig, which puts the German club in a strong position regarding any negotiations. With no release clause in his deal, any interested party would need to pay a sum of around £46million in transfer fee to get his signature.
Man United are not the only side interested in the Frenchman as PL rivals Arsenal are also monitoring the situation while PSG are also keen on facilitating a reunion ahead of the summer transfer window. However, managing director Oliver Mintzlaff was adamant that he would stay at the Red Bull Arena for at least one more season, dealing a blow to the three aforementioned clubs.
Pay the money!
Since joining the Bundesliga side, the 24-year-old has garnered 31 goals and 40 assists from 115 appearances across all competitions. The attacking midfielder could continue to better that output moving forward considering the trajectory that he is going on at this moment.
As such, the asking price is not that steep for someone who can still improve in the future. While goals and assists aren’t the only metric to judge a player by, his 19 goals and 13 assists this season- playing in a variety of positions- highlights just what he can bring to the attacking side of things at Old Trafford.
The Ligue 1 giants and the Gunners would certainly pose a threat to our ambitions with regards to signing Nkunku. However, it is still unknown whether Mintzlaff would allow a sale.
Ralf Rangnick knows RB Leipzig very well, having worked with them in the past. Only time will tell if that is even remotely a factor to consider in a potential deal for the Frenchman.

With players like Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba potentially leaving as free agents at the end of this season, there are several areas where the French ace can slot into our squad. Nkunku can play in central midfield, as a number 10, on the right flank, and even down the middle in attack.
Those who have followed his career would be aware of his versatility and quality. And that being said, this would be like killing more than two birds with one stone. With the price tag now clear, it is down to the board to formalize any apparent interest they may have in Nkunku.
