Transfer News: Real Madrid could rival Manchester United for West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice
Gianluca Di Marzio, while speaking to Wettfreunde (h/t Football.London), claims that Real Madrid could register their interest in signing West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice amidst interest from Manchester United. A highly-rated holding midfielder, it comes as no surprise that he is garnering this level of attention.
West Ham will not make life easy for any of the interested parties as David Moyes has been adamant that they would not sell Rice for anything less than £100million. Chelsea and Manchester City are also vying for his services as they look to strengthen their midfield and now, Di Marzio believes Real could also enter the race in the near future.
Speaking in an interview with Wettfreunde (h/t Football.London), the transfer guru revealed Carlo Ancelotti is a huge fan of the player and ‘will’ enter the race to sign the Englishman if and when the chance presents itself.
“If there will be the possibility to have him (Declan Rice), Ancelotti will be in the race. I don’t know which strategy Real Madrid will have in the future – it depends on some players staying or going. For sure, Carlo Ancelotti likes him very much. Carlo Ancelotti could be the perfect coach to have him in Real Madrid. Real Madrid could be perfect for him because their coach loves him in an incredible way.”
Potential blow?
If Los Blancos enter the race to sign the 23-year-old, we could be dealt one of the worst cards to play with next summer. Los Galacticos are a team, like Man United, capable of attracting the world’s biggest talents.
Last week, the Hammers ace firmly expressed that he wants to win the biggest titles that are available to be won. If that is the case, it would be safe to assume that us qualifying for next season’s Champions League could be important in that regard.
With the Blues and Man City also in the fray, the race to sign Rice would not be easy. We are on track to lose Paul Pogba in the summer as the ex-Juventus star’s contract enters its final few months. On top of that, Fred and Scott McTominay are two players that need quality competition for starts in midfield.
Our need for quality midfield additions is evident, especially with the poor results we have suffered recently. We were outmatched in the centre of the pitch and were constantly leaving gaps between the attack and the defence.

It remains to be seen if we have the financial might to lure Rice to Old Trafford after a busy summer last year but one thing is for certain- our task would be made a whole lot easier if a team like Real Madrid keep their hands off the Cobham graduate.
