Ralf Rangnick opens up on Manchester United squad being unhappy with his training sessions
Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t ESPN), Ralf Rangnick issued a response to the talks stating that the Manchester United squad is unhappy with his training sessions. He addressed the issue ahead of the match against Southampton in the Premier League, which will take place tomorrow at Old Trafford.
Supposedly, the Red Devils stars are discontent with the methods used by the German coach. They feel that the training sessions were outdated and were surprised by Chris Armas receiving more prominence over the interim boss. They were also displeased with the lesser importance given to dynamic drills to keep them match sharp. Apparently, more focus is being given to the team structure while the individual skills are not being focused on to an extent.
Rangnick has conveyed that he did not run into any articles that made those claims. He pointed to the improvements made by the Red Devils recently to make his case that the sessions are important. He also delved deep into how the team benefits from his training.
“I haven’t read any newspapers and don’t know about those articles. What I can assure you is that the training is…I mean, the way that the team has developed over the last couple of weeks, it’s obvious tactically and this is due to the work that we do in training, both on the pitch but also if we do the video analysis. The training that we are doing, including all the important training games – and the little games as well as the 11 versus 11 games – and we do a lot of rondos and little games to increase fluidity and get better in possession of the ball, it’s part of the training session.”
Not again!
It is still unknown whether this piece of information is true or not, as we must take that into account before forming an opinion. However, if that is found to be true, it is baffling to see it getting leaked to the media, especially after what the 63-year-old manager has expressed about such cases.
Earlier this week, the Red Devils coach had asked the players to communicate in person rather than expressing themselves on social media. Granted, that was a response to the situation with Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard, but it can be applied in this case as well. We must gain control over such ruckuses, as it seems that there is always daily drama within the club which is not healthy in any case.

It is pretty clear that we have improved under Rangnick compared to the days under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. We have solidified our defence during this period and are a work in progress in the attacking department. There is a solid structure in place at this moment, and we must build on that moving forward.
The results have not always favoured us, but we are on the right track at this moment. We had great first-half performances in the last two fixtures that were arguably one of the best spells of this season. That indicates that Rangnick has been doing the tasks well so far, but it is now up to the players to maintain their display throughout the ninety minutes. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.
