Transfer News: Barcelona offer contract to Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic amidst Manchester United interest
According to La Repubblica [Subscription Required] (h/t FCINTER1908.IT), Barcelona have made a contract offer to sign Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic amidst interest from Manchester United for a future transfer. He has attracted attention from others as a result of the circumstances surrounding his current deal at San Siro.
Brozovic will become a free agent at the end of this season if he does not sign an extension in the coming months. He could legally reach a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside Italy at this point. Simeone Inzaghi wants him to renew his current deal prompting Inter to engage in talks over a new contract.
The Nerazzurri have proposed a salary package of €6million per season for four more years to tie the Croatian down. Negotiations were going smoothly, having offered the contract back in December, but the entry of Barca last month have complicated things. The latter has raised the stakes with an improved five year deal with €8million per season for a summer move.
Man Utd to make their move?
If the Red Devils have an aim to prise away the 29-year-old, they must retaliate at the earliest because of the risk of a pre-contract agreement. We have to at least make our case to the central midfielder before allowing him to decide over his future prospects. Getting him for free is something we cannot afford to pass on due to our current circumstances.
The Blaugrana side is not our only problem, as Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping tabs on the situation. That raises the competition, so we need to be on high alert to bring the Serie A star to Old Trafford. The Italian side is still confident about renewing his deal soon, having set a time frame of ten days.
The Inter superstar has reiterated his intention to sign a new deal in the past, but the interest from the La Liga club has caused him to assess his options. That, in turn, also benefits us since it gives us some time to offer our deal if the board has plans to do so. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.

As a midfield general, the Croatian international is just what we need in the centre of the pitch to solve the instability issues. The problems were highlighted once again in the recent 1-1 draw against Burnley as they cut through us with relative ease. There was a huge gap between attack and defence which needs to be addressed moving forward.
The Serie A ace still performs at a high level despite nearing the twilight of his playing career. Let’s hope that the Manchester club would get his signature to boost our squad ahead of next season.
