Jesse Lingard calls out Ralf Rangnick and Manchester United on missing Middlesbrough match
According to ESPN, Jesse Lingard has lashed out at Ralf Rangnick and Manchester United for misinformation surrounding his lack of availability for the match against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fourth round. The game is set to take place later today, although the attacking midfielder would not be available for selection.
Earlier, Rangnick had expressed in his pre-match press conference that the Englishman has asked for some time off following the failed move to Newcastle United. The Magpies had retracted their interest after Man United demanded £12million in bonus if they managed to survive in the Premier League.
However, Lingard has hit out at those remarks by tweeting on his official social media handle. He has revealed that it was the club that suggested he should take some time off, rather than what the German boss said. The midfielder added that he would always make himself available if the club asks for his services.
“The club advised me to have time off due to personal reasons! But my headspace is clear and I’ll always be professional when called upon and give 100 per cent.”
A mess again!
It is baffling to see how there is miscommunication within our club, and this wasn’t a one-off situation either. Now we have to wait for more updates to see how this debacle even occurred in the first place. But no matter what, issues like this would not help us in the slightest when we are working to focus on improving the squad and achieving our goals.
Anthony Martial and the 63-year-old coach were involved in a similar situation earlier this season, which would certainly make some fans wonder if this is a coincidence or not. While the Frenchman is now out on loan at Sevilla, Lingard remains a Red Devil after the closure of the January transfer window.
What happened with the 29-year-old playmaker and Newcastle was unfortunate, and the Red Devils were at fault for that particular incident. But it is time to set aside their differences for the greater benefit of the team and if the Red Devils caused Lingard’s move to fall apart, then they owe him a fair chance to showcase his talent for the next few months before the end of this season.
The England international is expected to return on Monday for training and it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds until then. After all, off-the-field issues would do us no good when our priorities should be improving the performances on the pitch.

As for Rangnick, he has now twice opted to wash his dirty laundry in public, putting the spotlight on Martial and Lingard when the matter could have been dealt with properly behind closed doors. Whether it points towards his ruthless style of management or indicates his lack of man-management is something that is quite hard to figure out right now.
