Fabrizio Romano: Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo not a transfer target for Manchester United
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are not vying for the services of Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo this January transfer window. He has not enjoyed a great time in Serie A since he left Barcelona to join them back in 2020.
Romano has straight-up denied any links between the Red Devils and the Brazilian midfielder, putting an end to all talks in the process. Talks of Melo moving to Man United had emerged alongside the possible departure of Donny van de Beek who could move out this month.
Van de Beek has attracted interest from Everton and Crystal Palace, which means that he could leave Old Trafford in the remaining few days of this winter transfer window. The Red Devils do need midfielders and if the Dutchman leaves, then there is all the more reason to bring in a new face in the middle of the park.
Should we target him?
The 25-year-old plays mostly as a central midfielder, although he can deputise in defensive midfield or attacking midfield when needed. Known for his composure in midfield, Arthur is an able playmaker who is a presence to consider in defence as well.
His talent is obvious, even if he is having an inconsistent spell in Turin. Those who have watched him at Gremio and Barcelona know all about his talent and so, a move to Old Trafford could have worked out for him.
But it seems like he is not a target for us and this is a dead end as far as all links regarding Arthur to Man United are considered. Moreover, it’s not like Donny van de Beek needs
It seems like we would have to look at different avenues if we want to strengthen in the middle of the park. The transfer window will close soon and if the club wants to back Ralf Rangnick by signing a midfielder, then they better hurry up.

Paul Pogba, however, is closing in on his return from an injury that has kept him sidelined for a while. Meanwhile, despite the aforementioned links, van de Beek is still a Man United player as of now.
So, even if we don’t get in a midfielder, it will not be the end of the world. Players are, after all, tough to sign in January. But the club must know that a defensive midfielder would really help strengthen our team and by the time we reach summer, it would be wise if we start addressing that issue before it’s too late.
