Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford sets Premier League record during West Ham win
As reported by the club’s official website, the OptaJoe Twitter account confirmed that Marcus Rashford made history by scoring the late winner for Manchester United against West Ham United at Old Trafford. It was his fourth injury-time winner for the Red Devils in the Premier League.
Rashford started the trend two years earlier when the England international helped his boyhood club come away with a win at the KCOM Stadium, scoring from close range as the team beat Hull City 1-0 on the night. The previous two goals Rashford has scored in injury were strikes at Old Trafford, resulting in wins over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bournemouth.
The reliable Opta handle claimed after the game that the Englishman registered the most stoppage-time winners in Premier League’s history, which is twice as many as any other Man United player. A telling statistic, given our knack of winning games at the death.
The no.10 took to the field as a 62nd-minute substitute, eventually turning into the match-winner as he was on hand to tap home Edinson Cavani‘s cross. The final touch of the game raised the noise level at Old Trafford and sent fans into delirium as they overcame a resilient West Ham side.
Rashford made a late run into the box in injury time to tap home the winning goal in the 93rd minute after boss Ralf Rangnick sent on three strikers in the second half to try and claim a winner. The game was heading towards a draw at the end of ninety minutes, but the Englishman had other plans in mind as West Ham United were put to the sword.
It was Rashford’s second goal in as many games, scoring away against Brentford in midweek after once again coming off the bench. The forward certainly seems to be picking his moments as he aims to return to form after looking short of confidence in recent weeks.
Fergie time seems to be well and alive in 2022, as Rangnick got to experience a typical Man United last-gasp win at home, which is built into our club’s DNA. The home side has always had a way with nicking wins in the last minute, and unfortunately for West Ham, they were the latest recipients of this Old Trafford tradition.
For Rashford to come up with the winner will mean even more for fans. He has been a fan favourite ever since his debut at Old Trafford as a young teenager and he once again gave the fans more reasons to sing his name.

The 24-year-old has suffered a downturn in form and confidence ever since he returned from an injury this season, leading to fans being worried about the forward’s form on the pitch. In recent game weeks, however, we seem to have seen glimpses of the old Rashford back, as he has now scored in consecutive league matches.
With a Premier League record added to his name, we can now hope that the attack-minded and direct Rashford we love is back to his best. Hopefully, he helps turn our season around for the rest of the campaign as Man United aim to end the season strongly and secure a Champions League qualification spot.
