Manchester United dealt transfer blow as Chelsea enter race to sign Palmeiras starlet Endrick

According to Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports on The Transfer Show (h/t Football.London), Manchester United have been dealt a blow by the entry of Chelsea in the race to sign Palmeiras starlet Endrick for a future transfer. He has attracted a lot of attention from the European heavyweights and could be the subject of a bidding war in the future.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool are also monitoring the situation as they are keen to get the services of the next big talent from Brazil. The 15-year-old has been touted as the “next Romario or Ronaldo” following a series of excellent performances at the youth level.

Barca had sent their scouts to assess the teenager this week when he scored through an overhead kick while playing against players who are above his age group. However, the youngster is yet to pen a professional contract due to being underage, but he would be able to do so next summer when he turns 16.

Be smart, Man United

If the Blues’ entry is anything to go by, it is reasonable to think that more clubs would be vying for his services in the coming months should he continue to perform at this level. So, Man United would have to be wary about the situation if they don’t want to lose out on Endrick.

While Thomas Tuchel’s side is the new entrant, it seems that the Blaugrana club is the major opposition at this point since they are heavily interested in getting the Verdao centre-forward. That is further highlighted by the fact that they have scouted him recently to prepare themselves for a potential move.

Since the South American cannot legally join us this month, we have to be ready to snatch him when he can sign a professional contract. If he lives up to the legends he has been tipped to replicate, the Red Devils would be the obvious winners if they can prise him away ahead of others.

Due to his age, it would be unrealistic to think that the Brazil starlet can be near the first team for us. He is clearly one for the future, so if we are to get him, then we must create a favourable environment where he can continue his growth.

If we sign him up next summer, there is a chance that the Palmeiras prodigy would be nearing the first-team set-up by the time Cristiano Ronaldo leaves us in the future. We would need a top talent if we are to replace a man of his calibre and if the stars are aligned, there is nothing to stop Endrick from being that player.

Football is a ruthless sport. There have been countless young starlets that have created hype for themselves but failed to live up to expectations. It is wise to invest in Endrick but United should remember that he is 15 and his career can go in either direction.
