Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur target Dean Henderson will stay at Manchester United for the rest of the season
According to transfer news on The Mirror, Dean Henderson has taken a stance to stay and fight for a place at Manchester United for the rest of the season amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur. Contrary to what many had thought, circumstances and David De Gea’s return to form had seen him fall down the pecking order this term.
Henderson was open to moving elsewhere on loan after his lack of minutes resulted in Sam Johnstone, Aaron Ramsdale, and Jordan Pickford jumping ahead of him in the national team squad. Tottenham have been keeping tabs on the situation for a potential move, but this latest decision may well put an end to their interest.
Earlier, Ralf Rangnick had admitted that he had asked the 24-year-old to stay with the club despite the lack of game time. So, this decision from the goalkeeper would be music to his ears as he wanted to keep the squad intact to meet his needs for the long season ahead.
Major boost for Man Utd!
De Gea has been sensational since returning to form, so it will be difficult for the Englishman to regain the number one spot. However, it is good to see him accepting the challenge and pushing himself for the rest of the season. That will only help us get better in our pursuit for a top-four finish this campaign.
The Man United second-choice ‘keeper is tied down at Old Trafford for three and a half more years, so we are in a comfortable spot, and there is no need to be worried about interests from others. But if he has decided to respect Rangnick’s wishes and stay at the club, surely we would be wise enough to repay him for that with increased playing time.
He has played in just 2 senior games this season, with none of those being in the Premier League. His only league appearances this term have come for the youth set-up in Premier League 2.
The Red Devils are paying the England international around £120,000-a-week, so it’s best to get our money’s worth by having him between the posts more often. De Gea was given the nod in the FA Cup fixture against Aston Villa, even if the cup competitions are usually reserved for those down the pecking order.
Henderson is more than capable enough to play at the highest level, so Rangnick should put his trust in him moving forward. If the boss is desperate for him to stay, he has to indicate that by giving the keeper enough chances between the posts to make a case for himself.

And with Hendo now looking to stay for the remainder of the season, it would also force de Gea to always be on high alert and maintain his form. At the same time, we would have a great backup option to deal with potential injuries, suspension or even Covid in the current circumstances. With a chunk of the season left to take place, there could be a harmonious coexistence between de Gea and Henderson if the minutes are properly managed between the goalkeeping duo.
