Ralf Rangnick vetoed Anthony Elanga leaving Manchester United on loan

According to BBC Sport (h/t Metro), Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick prevented Anthony Elanga from leaving the club on loan in the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old is one of the best young talents to come out of the club’s academy in recent years. Rangnick was aware of the young Swede’s talent and admits to having seen videos of him on Youtube in his first week at the job.

It would appear that Elanga was supposed to leave on loan. However, Rangnick’s arrival has lent him a new lease of life in the Red Devils senior squad. The German certainly has high hopes for the player and is privy to seeing him continue to develop in the future.

“He was almost on his way out on loan, I told him you will not go out on loan, you will say here. He has developed in training.”

The youngster too appears to have brought into Rangnick’s methods and praised the interim Man United boss for the positive impact he has had at the club. Elanga for one appears to realize the opportunity he has been presented with and it is up to him to make the most of it.

“I appreciate the boss so much and you can see in training, the intensity, how much we are running.”

Elanga received his big break in the first team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season. He scored in the final Premier League game of the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers in what was a fine display of his skills.

The youngster was also on target yesterday night as Man United defeated Brentford 3-1 in the Premier League. Elanga opened the scoring on the night with an excellent finish and gave an excellent account of himself.

There is still much for the youngster to learn. Thankfully he appears to be on the right track and in Rangnick, also has a manager who has faith in his abilities.

Rangnick’s opinions on Elanga do not ring out as hollow praise as he has backed it up with playing the youngster in the first team. It is a refreshing show of faith in the 19-year-old and is hopefully the beginning of a long and fruitful career at Old Trafford.

Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford could flourish for the first team only when they were given a consistent level of playing time. That may be the ideal way to take Elanga’s career forward here, but it remains to be seen how Rangnick uses him in the second half of this season.
