Barcelona propose Manchester United sign Ousmane Dembele for a cut price deal this January
According to the Spanish publication Sport via Sport Witness (h/t The Mirror), Barcelona have offered the services of Ousmane Dembele to Manchester United for a cut-price deal in the January transfer window. He is currently engaged in a contract standoff with the Catalan giants and could be on the way out next summer.
Dembele has entered the final six months of his current deal and could reach a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside Spain this month. He and Barca are “light years” away from agreeing to the terms involved, which has prompted the club to offer him to Man United to cut costs and prevent him from leaving on a free in the summer.
The Blaugrana club have offered the Frenchman to the Red Devils for £16.6million, which is a far cry from the £135.5million they paid for him back in 2017. Newcastle United have also been offered his services in the winter transfer window. Dembele could be ‘seduced’ by interest from Premier League, so we could have an interesting couple of weeks up ahead before the market closes.
Dembele good option for Man United?
The proposed offer seems a steal for someone who still has years left in his playing career and could end up fulfilling the potential he had shown at Borussia Dortmund and Stade Rennes. The 24-year-old never clicked into top gear at Camp Nou, and much of it is down to the constant injuries that plagued him throughout his time in Spain.
The La Liga forward’s injury history is concerning but what is interesting is how he never had such severe setbacks before joining the Catalans. That could indicate that the issue lies with his club rather than the player and could help us make our minds regarding a potential move.
The France international has featured 129 times for Barcelona and has scored 31 goals while assisting 23 more across all competitions. That return is solid for someone who has endured constant setbacks, which indicates that he may perform even better if the injury struggles can be resolved.

The major concern, however, is the ridiculous £700,000-a-week salary package that the Barca attacker has demanded for renewing his current deal. That is simply not feasible, and if he maintains this stance, Man United will do well to dismiss it as out of hand.
That is not all, as the midfield is still our priority considering the instability issues the team has encountered for quite some time. Our money should be used to address those issues first before even entertaining the idea of signing someone who comes with a lot of risks. The board is known for their mismanagement, but we hope that they make a reasonable decision regarding this matter.
