Transfer News: Fred believes Edinson Cavani will stay at Manchester United with Corinthians interested
Fred believes that Edinson Cavani will stay at Manchester United beyond this month despite interest from Corinthians for a potential transfer. The striker has seen his minutes reduce following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo last summer from Juventus.
The 34-year-old has been linked with a move to South America in the January transfer window as a result of his lack of regular playing time. He has also struggled with recurring injuries this campaign which has further added to the reason for his current plight.
Speaking in an interview with ESPN Brasil via Sport Witness (h/t The Daily Star), Man United midfielder Fred has revealed the conversation he had with Cavani regarding the interest from the Brazilian club. He added that the forward mentioned how he has a contract to fulfil, which could put an end to all the links moving forward.
“The other day I joked with him, saying that I had heard something about Corinthians. I said Corinthians, I played with him. He just laughed. He said he still has a contract to fulfil.”
Cavani to stay at Man Utd?
It is baffling to think that the Uruguayan is still being linked with a move elsewhere when Ralf Rangnick had expressed the forward’s desire to stay with us. If there were any doubts about the boss’ words, then this should put an end to all such talks.
Since we are at the halfway mark of the winter transfer window, it is difficult to see us facilitate a move even if the Red Devils attacker changes his decision. The former PSG and Napoli striker continues to be a deadly striker and he proved his worth last season when he was scoring crucial goals off the bench for us.
The Uruguay international has a contract with the Manchester club, which will expire at the end of the 2021-22 season. He could reach a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside England this month but there is nothing official on that front so far- which comes as good news for our fans.
At 34, he has barely shown any signs of slowing down. An avid runner off the ball, his physical condition is pretty impressive for a player his age. With Rangnick playing with two central strikers and United not trusting Anthony Martial recently, it would be unwise to completely dismiss us offering him a potential extension this summer. Whether that will happen or not would only be known in due time.

He has certainly done a good job since coming in at Old Trafford and fans have certainly taken a liking to him in this short time. Cavani has also been paired with Ronaldo under Rangnick which shows that the German boss may well have some plans in store for the Uruguay international in the second half of this season.
