Transfer News: Manchester United are leading the race for Marseille ace Boubacar Kamara
According to Sky Deutschland (h/t The Express), Manchester United appear to be favourites to sign Marseille star Boubacar Kamara as Bayern Munich could be an unappealing prospect for the midfielder.
The 22-year-old has made good progress in his career in the past couple of seasons. Since being promoted to the senior team in 2017, Kamara has gone on to make 144 appearances for the French outfit. But the player is now in the final year of his contract at the Ligue 1 side.
Bayern Munich and Man United have been in a transfer battle to land his signature. However, it now appears that the German giants might not be an appealing prospect to the French international. This is because the reigning Bundesliga champions are close to tying down Kingsley Coman to a new deal.
The winger shall be following Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich, who have also recently penned new deals, while Serge Gnabry is also expected to sign an extension soon. Kamara is looking to make it to the France squad for this year’s World Cup and is likely to be behind in the pecking order at Bayern for game-time, making Man United the favourites to sign him.
Pivotal deal
The Red Devils need a midfielder soon, and Ralf Rangnick needs to convince the Marseille star of the project at Old Trafford. But while we are favourites for his signature, it remains to be seen whether he would be open to joining in January or in the summer.
If it is a summer move, the 13-time Premier League champions need to seal a pre-contract agreement soon. This would see the player join us as a free agent next summer. Alternatively, if a January deal is being targeted, we could seal a cut-price fee for him this month.
Thus, either way, this move is not expected to cost us all that much. In return, we would be getting a midfielder that is primed to make it to the top and is hungry to perform on the world stage. We can offer the prestige of a big club and the platform to display his talent in the biggest competitions.

It would be necessary to seal Champions League football to do so, but that prospect is not out of reach. Moreover, with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic in awkward contractual situations, signing Kamara needs to be our top transfer priority. However, only time will tell whether the Frenchman agrees to come to the Theatre of Dreams.
