According to talkSPORT (h/t Daily Star), Newcastle United are really keen on sealing a deal in January for wantaway Manchester United ace Dean Henderson.

Since gaining the status of the richest club in the world, the Toon Army has been ready to dip into the transfer market. They have already sealed a £12million move for Kieran Trippier and are looking to bring in additional reinforcements.

The Geordies are eyeing a new goalkeeper and have placed Henderson on their radar. The Man United shot-stopper has struggled for game-time at Old Trafford this season after having failed to displace David de Gea from the No 1 spot.

The 24-year-old did request a move away from the club two weeks ago, but it was met with a firm rejection by Ralf Rangnick. The German boss is very clear on his intentions of having three top goalkeepers at the club for the remainder of the season.

Should we let Henderson join Newcastle United?

This move is not really beneficial for Man United. Letting him join another Premier League side is not going to do us any good. The Man United academy graduate may not be playing a lot of football at the moment, but he is the long-term option for us, especially since De Gea has 18 months left on his contract and is yet to pen an extension.

Moreover, it has been made clear to the player that a transfer in January is out of the question. If the Spanish goalkeeper picks up an injury or contracts the Covid-19 disease, we need somebody to deputize for him and perform the job seamlessly. Despite all his experience, it would not be wise to make Tom Heaton the starting goalkeeper at any point this season.

But the move can make sense for the player. It could be a gamble that pays off as he would certainly get more minutes at St. James’ Park if he signs for them. If the Toons survive this season through his heroics, then Gareth Southgate would be forced to take notice of the ex-Sheffield United stopper ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Goalkeepers like Aaron Ramsdale and Jordan Pickford have made their names at comparatively smaller teams. If a goalkeeper performs well, it doesn’t matter what team he plays for; people still take note of their displays.

Henderson is a quality goalkeeper, and it is no surprise that the Magpies are interested in signing him. But the 24-year-old has a contract until 2026, keeping him committed to us for the next four and a half years. A potential summer move could be discussed, but it is unlikely that Man United shall allow the fringe star to leave in the winter transfer window.
