Transfer News: Manchester United couldn’t reach an agreement for Julian Alvarez transfer
According to transfer news from Lorenzo De Santis as quoted by Fiorentina News, Manchester United couldn’t ‘close the deal’ for Julian Alvarez in the January window.
Julian Alvarez has been in scintillating form in the last few seasons. The Argentine star is currently trailing by just one goal from the top scorer spot of the Argentine Primera division. Furthermore, after securing 18 goals in 21 league games, it seems the Argentine starlet has shaken up the transfer market lately.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with the River Plate striker in recent times. It was even believed that the Red Devils board also had a meeting with his entourage to discuss the possibility of the transfer. However, the rumours linking United with the 21-year-old cooled down after a few days.
Recently transfer market intermediary Lorenzo De Santis suggested why United were obliged to drop the interest in the highly talented youngster.
“There seemed to be a situation well underway with Manchester United, but in the end, the Red Devils were unable to close the deal because they are unable to sell players.”
Anthony Martial hasn’t been involved in any game after the arrival of Ralf Rangnick. After the French international’s recent conversation with the interim manager, it’s clear that he desires to try his luck elsewhere. Therefore, United have to find a quality replacement for the 26-year-old, and Alvarez can undoubtedly take up that pace.

It seems River Plate maintained a stiff stance regarding their star player and want a hefty release clause of €20m to allow any move. Manchester United could have met the demands if they found a buyer for Anthony Martial.
Lorenzo also suggested that River Plate might be open to a discount price in the final stage of the transfer window. However, United has to find a way to offload a player before that to have any chance of completing the transfer.
