Transfer News: Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United yet to put forth offer to sign Borussia Monchengladbach ace Denis Zakaria
According to transfer news from journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are yet to lodge a bid to sign Borussia Monchengladbach ace Denis Zakaria.
The 25-year-old star has had yet another eye-catching campaign with the German club. Since arriving from BSC Young Boys in 2017, the midfielder has made 144 appearances for Monchengladbach. In the same period, the Swiss international has also scored 11 goals and provided 8 assists.
Man United are understandably interested in the player, with Ralf Rangnick being a keen admirer of Zakaria. However, it has now been claimed that the Red Devils are yet to lodge a bid for the Swiss international.
The Servette academy graduate is out of contract in the summer, and more than four other clubs are in the race to sign him. Thus, the central midfielder could either sign a pre-contract in the coming weeks or make a decision over his destination in the summer.
What are we waiting for?
The need for a defensive midfielder is dire. Man United have tried out seven different midfield combinations this season, but neither has found consistent success. Scott McTominay and Fred work hard but can sometimes fail to dictate play and control the game.
Donny van de Beek offers solid passing but is rarely ever played by any manager at Old Trafford. Paul Pogba is out with an injury and could depart as a free agent in the summer. Nemanja Matic also has 18 months left on his contract and is ageing. Thus, signing Zakaria would be a welcome addition.
It also bodes well for us that Rangnick appreciates the midfielder. But it is puzzling why John Murtough and co are yet to conclude a deal for him. The fact that he has only six months left on his contract is also a massive boost as we could seal a cut-price move for him in January.
If we fail to make any additions in the centre of the pitch over the next three weeks, it could deliver a blow to our chances in the Top 4 race and our UCL ambitions. We need mid-season changes as soon as possible, and the longer we take to sign players like the Swiss ace, the harder the task shall be to end the season on a good note.

After all, the earlier we sign players, the sooner they can be integrated into the squad. At 25, he is also in the peak years of his career and can be a long-term option in midfield for any club he wishes to play for next.
