Jorge Mendes jets in to hold ‘crisis talks’ with Cristiano Ronaldo amidst potential Manchester United exit
Speaking in an interview, as quoted by The Sun, a source revealed that Jorge Mendes has arrived in England to hold ‘crisis talks’ with Cristiano Ronaldo amidst a potential exit from Manchester United.
Things have been quite problematic at Old Trafford in recent weeks. Ralf Rangnick was expected to bring a calming presence, however, it has been anything but that. The squad is looking clueless, and the systems and methods are not working, if we are to go by the result and performance that we saw against Wolves.
To add to the gaffer’s troubles, Cristiano Ronaldo could also be on the move now. The Portuguese superstar is growing frustrated with the current performances and is ‘disillusioned’ with the manager’s style of football.
His agent, Jorge Mendes, has now arrived in Manchester to hold ‘crisis talks’ with arguably his biggest client. That is according to a source that is ‘close’ to the former Juventus and Real Madrid man.
“Cristiano is very concerned about what is happening at United. The team is receiving a lot of criticism, and he knows he is regarded as one of the leaders. He desperately wants his United move to be a success, but he is starting to recognise that winning trophies with the current set-up could be a real struggle.”
“Jorge came to see him, and they spent time chatting through how things are going, what they think are the problems, how they might be solved and what the solutions may be. Nothing has been ruled out.”
Massive problems behind the scenes
Rangnick may have looked unworried about the current situation in his recent press conference, but things may well be unfolding behind the scenes. If Ronaldo is concerned about the club and the direction it is taking, one can speculate that things are far worse than they are made out to be.
The 36-year-old left Real Madrid in 2018, and the club is yet to achieve European glory again. He also left Juventus this summer, and the Italian giants are not even in the Top 4 of Serie A right now. Thus, the striker can tell when a club is going through a steady decline- or can cause one himself by just leaving the team.
To his credit, he has scored 14 goals in 22 games across all competitions and kept his end of the bargain. The squad around him is also arguably one of the best in the league, but consistency and faulty errors have led to our downfall this season. One area Rangnick has arguably not been successful either is his team selection and timing of making substitutes.

But the gaffer has only been at the helm for one month. The magnitude of the job might be overwhelming, but the German now needs to take a hold of things. Ronaldo never settles for mediocrity, and if things do not change soon, an exit cannot be ruled out for our club legend.
Then again, with most stories in the media, it is wise to take it with a pinch of salt. There is nothing that Ronaldo or Rangnick have done to explicitly reveal any rift or a transfer move for CR7. Thus, only time will where the Portugal international’s immediate future lies.
