Manchester United eye Ruben Neves and Boubacar Kamara as summer transfer window targets
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are looking up the midfield duo of Ruben Neves and Boubacar Kamara as priority targets for the summer transfer window. They are desperate for some additions in the centre of the pitch, an area of the pitch that was markedly underwhelming during the 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Kamara will see his deal with Marseille expire at the end of this season, meaning he could reach a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs this month if he wants to move elsewhere. Neves is tied up by the Wolves till 2024 and would be more expensive as a result.
Newcastle United and AS Roma are vying for the services of the 21-year-old and would pose competition to Man United. The Red Devils have prioritised doing these dealings next summer but they would be open to trying their hands this month if a long-term target is available.
Why summer?
We have been on a long journey of solving our midfield crisis, which has created imbalances within the team. The issues were evident even before the current campaign had begun, and it is frustrating that it was not solved in the summer itself. While Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and Cristiano Ronaldo were top additions, we really could have done with a central midfielder instead of perhaps one of them.
Whatsmore, the Frenchman’s contract provides an excellent opportunity for us to get him in January since he may be available for a reasonable price. While a move this month could be on the cards for a long term target, it is puzzling to see that we have not made that a priority.
The Ligue 1 starlet also falls into that category, which gives us more reasons to sign and bring him to Old Trafford. The lack of a midfield reinforcement could derail our chances of a top-four finish in the Premier League, leading to larger repercussions. While there is competition for him, the prospect of playing for us would be of more value compared to those other clubs.

The Portuguese star also has many years left in his playing career, but his contract situation makes him complicated. A summer transfer would be relatively easier in such a case, but we really cannot afford to wait that long. But there are other things that make him a better prospect, like his understanding of the English top-flight or his experience in general.
It is not like we are blessed with midfielders who could play in that double pivot role. Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic are our only natural options pointing us to the severity of the situation. Let’s hope that there is a change in stance and that a signing will be made to back Ralf Rangnick this month.
