Transfer Update: Manchester United make contact with the agent of River Plate ace Julian Alvarez
According to Tyc Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have contacted the agent of River Plate ace Julian Alvarez amidst a potential transfer in 2022.
The Red Devils are always looking to lure the best talent in the world to Manchester. In the last half a decade, we have signed quality talent like Amad Diallo, Alvaro Fernandez, and a couple of others. The latest name on their list is 21-year-old Julian Alvarez.
The River Plate talented banged in 18 goals in 21 games for the Argentinian club this season to lift the Championship for the first time since 2007. He also received his first national call-up this year and could be looking to make it to the World Cup next year. Thus, he is clearly a brilliant talent, and Man United would be lucky to have him.
The Old Trafford outfit have now intensified their efforts to land the youngster. The player’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, has apparently received a call from the Manchester-based club regarding a potential move. The striker is said to have a €20million release clause in his contract and has been linked with an exit from the Argentinian outfit next year.
The next future star on the block?
It is rather hard to evaluate South American stars, especially when they excel in their home countries. More often than not, Italian and Spanish clubs have taken a punt on them and have succeeded. English clubs rarely do so, with Gabriel Jesus, Richarlison, and Gabriel Martinelli the last prominent names to succeed in the top flight after arriving from a South American club.
Thus, Alvarez could be the next name on the list. He is establishing himself on the international stage and is exceeding expectations at his current club. The next move is going to be important for him, not least because the World Cup is on the horizon.
Man United could offer him a good project at Old Trafford. Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial are on the verge of exits in January or the summer. Jesse Lingard is also out of contract at the end of the season. Thus, we could bring in some young blood to revitalize our attack and add some oomph to it.

The 21-year-old could act as an understudy to one of the greatest marksmen in the game in Cristiano Ronaldo. If he settles well, he could also lead the line in the coming years. However, we should be careful in this approach as signing Alvarez should not hinder the good progress of Mason Greenwood or Anthony Elanga.
