Marcus Rashford admits Benni McCarthy has improved Manchester United forwards
Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has hailed Benni McCarthy and has admitted that the South African has improved the Red Devils’ attacking play.
The 45-year-old was added to Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff last summer. He arrived as a specialist forwards coach and has since then done an impressive job bringing the best out of the players, especially the England international.
Speaking to SuperSport (h/t Manchester Evening News), the 25-year-old was happy with the work McCarthy has done at the Old Trafford side so far.
“I think he has done a good job. It’s always good for us to have a particular coach that concentrates on us as a forwards group. We have worked more as a team going forward which has led us to creating more chances and scoring more goals.”
The former South African forward is a Champions League winner. In the 2003/04 season, the 45-year-old was a pivotal member of the FC Porto team that went on to lift the prestigious European trophy under Jose Mourinho.
McCarthy also spent time in the Premier League with the likes of Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United. Therefore, the South African knows a thing or two about what the team should do going forward.
Rashford has found his feet once again in the current campaign. The 25-year-old is United’s leading goal-scorer in the current campaign. He has found the back of the net 25 times in 42 appearances in all competitions.
The England international has taken the mantle at the Old Trafford side after struggling last term. Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, the Red Devils’ academy graduate hardly had an impact.
Other forwards have improved as well. Jadon Sancho seems to be slowly getting back to his best. Anthony Martial has also played well when he has featured. Alejandro Garnacho has also broken onto the scene.
