Newcastle United look to trump Manchester United to Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara
According to The Sun, Newcastle United are trying to beat Manchester United and Chelsea to the signing of Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara. He has attracted attention from various clubs due to his performances in France over the past two years or so.
Kamara will see his current contract at the Stade Velodrome expire at the end of the current season. As a result, Man United and Chelsea are keen to sign him next summer for free. However, Newcastle have now entered the fray and plan to seize the initiative. They are ready to offer a bid of up to £10million to land him in the January transfer window.
The Magpies are planning to reach an agreement with the representatives of the 22-year-old before negotiating with the Ligue 1 club. Eddie Howe prefers players with Premier League experience but knows that this is too good of an opportunity to pass on.
Unconcerned
While Newcastle has had an influx of cash due to the takeover, their status as whipping boys remain the same. Not to mention, their position near the bottom of the league table further adds to the reasons why players may not prefer a move to join the Toons. However, if money is the only thing that matters, then we could see some players agreeing to a transfer.
Kamara is in the initial stages of his career, so it is hard to see why he would prefer to engage in a relegation dog fight and potentially continue his development in the English second tier. Our project is far better than Howe’s team’s, and our requirement for a defensive midfielder could see the youngster even garner regular playtime.
Thomas Tuchel’s side would pose a genuine threat to Man United’s ambitions of landing the player. Chelsea already have a solid midfield and also have the likes of Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour out on loan. It can be argued that their need is not as dire as ours at the moment.
Our depth in the defensive midfield is lacking, and the current options have their own problems. Fred and Scott McTominay are not technically astute, whereas Nemanja Matic is well past his prime. The formation used by Ralf Rangnick calls for two defensive midfielders, which further makes a case for us being Kamara’s best bet.
