Nemanja Matic: Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick faces the hardest challenge the PL has ever seen
Nemanja Matic believes Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has to face the hardest challenge the Premier League has ever seen. The coach has taken the role at a tough time when the team has been at its lowest while the rivals are arguably at their best.
The German boss had to take the new job midway through the season which is a challenging task in itself, to begin with. With no time to instil his ideas, Rangnick has a difficult job on his hands to meet expectations. That is without taking into consideration the other challenges like the Covid outbreak which adds to the already daunting work at hand.
According to The Mirror, Matic gave his thoughts on why he thinks that Rangnick has to deal with the sternest test the league has ever seen. He pointed out the various reasons, like the rise in quality over the years, which saw the division reach a level it has never reached before.
“I think this is the toughest league so far. When I came over in 2009, it was only Chelsea and Man United who were competing. Now there are a lot of teams who have a chance to win. The smaller ones have improved a lot and buy top-class players. The Premier League is just very hard…much more than 15 years ago, and of course, every manager who comes to a new club needs a period to adapt.”
Fair analysis?
The Red Devils boss certainly has one of the toughest managerial jobs in the England top division. The presence of managers like Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel has seen their respective teams reach a level that has never been attained before. Reaching their standards is not easy especially given the level we have functioned at in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
Even newly-promoted teams like Brentford have played entertaining football and have posed a major threat to the top clubs in the league. All these reasons further indicate that the 33-year-old was right about his manager having the most challenging task moving forward.
However, just like any opinion, there is always a counterargument to this as well. One could point towards Tottenham Hotspur and what Antonio Conte has to deal with currently. And there is certainly a great point to make in that case which is evident from their circumstances.

Making it in the Premier League is never easy, especially when there are superclubs with vast resources in already better positions, to begin with. Jurgen Klopp’s work at Liverpool is a testament to the belief that a club can attain glory should they work on their strengths and have a long term vision in place. Man United have lacked it in recent years and hopefully we have learned from it.
The fact that Matic recognized his manager’s difficulties is a good sign and it is imperative that the players are also on board. Them going the extra mile will eventually help Rangnick take us to the promised land.
