Transfer News: Emiliano Martinez could push two Manchester United stars to exit door

According to transfer news from TeamTalk, Manchester United could lose two stars of the first-team squad due to their interest in luring Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa.

Emiliano Martinez has developed himself into one of the best shot-stoppers of the Premier League in recent times. The 29-year-old was a standout performer at the Copa America tournament, where his heroics helped Argentina acquire the highly awaited trophy. At club level, the Argentine player hasn’t disappointed either. With five clean sheets in 17 appearances, the Aston Villa player has proved his worth to the Midlands outfit.

Manchester United target Emiliano Martinez has been sensational for Aston Villa.

The incredible performances of Martinez have attracted Manchester United lately. According to Football Insider, the Red Devils wants to make him a long term replacement for David De Gea. However, Ralf Rangnick’s team have to pay a hefty sum of £40m to the Lions for the transfer move.

David De Gea has been on his ‘A-game’ this season. The Spaniard single-handedly saved Manchester United many times and scintillated essential points. However, the 31-year-old goalkeeper’s performance has proved a barrier for second choice keeper Dean Henderson to break into the squad.

Dean has only played two matches this season and hasn’t made any considerable impact. The lack of game time has put uncertainty over his United future.

Dean Henderson is suffering from a lack of game time at United.

Pundit Kevin Campbell believes that the Manchester United academy graduate would soon choose the exit door and ye for better game time.

“He’ll have been wanting away anyway, but that will certainly speed things up. He came back from Sheffield United expecting games with a view to taking over that number one jersey from De Gea. It just hasn’t quite happened for him.”

On top of that, De Gea’s contract will end in 2023. Therefore there is uncertainty with both the goalkeeper’s stay at the club.  Martinez is no doubt a top-level goalkeeper. However, with De Gea’s presence in the club, it’s improbable that he would give up his role at Aston Villa for warming the bench at Manchester United.

The utmost priority for the Red Devils board should be keeping hold of De Gea. Henderson is a top-level stopper, and his presence in the squad could solve many problems. Whether Man United can however guarantee him enough game time to decide to stay put remains to be seen.
