Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani offered mega-deal by Corinthians despite Barcelona agreement
According to the Spanish news outlet Sport (h/t The Express), Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani has been offered a mega-deal by Brazilian side Corinthians despite reaching an agreement to move to Barcelona. He has seen his role at Old Trafford diminish this season due to various reasons.
The South American club are ready to pay Cavani a similar wage package to what he currently earns at Man United. However, he still prefers to stay in Europe and is waiting for Barca to sort out their intentions. Since reaching an agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of Ferran Torres, there has been uncertainty on whether they would pursue a move for the striker moving forward.
The 34-year-old’s contract with the Red Devils will expire at the end of the 2021-22 season and is expected to leave at the end of the current deal. Whether he would entertain the offer from Brazil or wait for the Catalans remains to be seen as the January transfer window is on the horizon.
Short successful stint
The Uruguayan has been successful at the Theatre of Dreams and has become a fan favourite in a short period due to his work ethic and attacking output. However, it is time to call it a day, and that could come to pass when he becomes a free agent next summer.
The Man United centre-forward has struggled with injuries this campaign and has settled for a largely supporting role in the pecking order. The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo has further reduced his minutes on the field. Ideally, we would have wanted to earn a fee for his departure, but we are not in a position to lose him mid-season.
The Uruguay star could feature in some manner against Newcastle United, having missed several games since early November. He could still form a formidable striking partnership with Ronaldo just like they did in their brief time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

We still have the second half of the season ahead of us and are involved in several competitions like the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup. We will need adequate depth in our squad to get through those congested fixtures, which have been made worse by the Covid outbreak.
And who knows if Cavani could recapture his fitness while contributing significantly. Time will tell what lies in store for him as we near the end of the season in the coming months.
