Sevilla director reveals transfer stance on Manchester United forward Anthony Martial
According to Estadio Deportivo (h/t SportWitness), Sevilla sporting director Monchi suggested that he knew Anthony Martial before he signed for Manchester United, and Sevilla will evaluate the chances of the transfer depending on whether the Africa Cup of Nations goes ahead or not.
Anthony Martial has suffered a rapid drop in form in recent times. The French forward was a key man for United in the 2019/20 season. However, his lack of consistency has been a significant concern for Red Devils from the previous season. The French international fell from the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjær and is yet to start under new manager Ralf Rangnick.
Martial was hugely linked with a Barcelona move. But in recent times, Sevilla emerged as the most likely destination for the forward. It was believed that Julen Lopetegui’s side are closing on securing the deal.
After Sevilla’s match against Barcelona yesterday, Los Nervionenses honco, Monchi faced many questions from the reporters about the possibility of the Martial deal.
In response to Movistar + journalist Mónica Marchante, the Sevilla chief suggested he found about the rumour while surfing social media.
“I have found out through social networks; we will have to ask the one who has published it… I know him from before he signed for Manchester [United].”
Monchi also revealed that they would decide the Martial approach depending upon whether the Africa Cup of Nations takes place or not.
“We are going to see how it ends today, the Africa Cup of Nations [possibility of it being cancelled or postponed], and from there we will see what we can work on.”
There is a massive possibility that Anthony Martial will leave Manchester United in the January transfer window, and it became more evident after his agent revealed the French forward’s intentions to play somewhere else.

Another United forward, Edinson Cavani, has been linked with an away move recently. If both the players leave, United will face difficulty with depth in the squad. Thus, the Red Devils board should start shortlisting forward players in the market to fill up the void.
