Manchester United target Porto winger Luis Diaz amidst Liverpool and Bayern Munich interest

According to FourFourTwo (h/t Daily Mail Online), Manchester United have identified the Porto winger Luis Diaz as a transfer target amidst interest from Liverpool and Bayern Munich. He has emerged to become one of the most exciting prospects over the past few years.

Man United will have a hefty job on their hands if they hope to sign the talented winger amid interest from other clubs. He is arguably one of the best players in Liga NOS right now- a league we have dipped in before when we signed the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Bruno Fernandes, and Diogo Dalot. Having been excellent at the club and national level, he has seen his value rise across Europe this year.

Diaz saw his name spread throughout Europe following his excellent campaign in the 2020 Copa America. Nicknamed the “Colombian Cristiano Ronaldo”, he helped his national team to a third-place finish in the competition. Whatsmore, he was the top scorer with four goals to his name, tying with Lionel Messi in the process.

Superstar in the making?

The Colombian has had a similar time at his club, spearheading them to three titles during his time in Portugal. He rose to newer heights this year while being exceptional at the club level. With 14 goals and four assists from 23 appearances across all competitions this season, he has helped his club top the Portuguese Primeira Liga table.

The Colombian forward has scored 39 times alongside 17 assists from 120 appearances throughout his time playing for the Dragoes. He scored the opener for his team in the recent game against Vizela, taking his goal involvement tally to six matches in a row. He would add more quality to the forward line, which may need some reinforcements in the coming transfer windows.

What keeps a club like ours ticking is refreshing the squad at regular intervals. Even under Sir Alex Ferguson, we were dominating English football yet made it a point to get in a new face every now and then. While our summer transfer window was good, it doesn’t mean we should sit quiet and reminisce about it.

Not to mention, he would add depth to our squad for the long run. Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are on the fringes of the team and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them leave in the future.

Bruno Fernandes, for example, did not have a great run of form recently, and the lack of reliable options was visible as Rangnick decided to use him from the start. The addition of Diaz would prevent such forced situations and force the players to do better by competing against their peers. It remains to be seen whether he would move to Old Trafford in the coming transfer windows.
