Real Madrid and Barcelona to tussle with Manchester United for the signature of Bayern Munich ace Kingsley Coman
According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Sun), Manchester United would have to battle Real Madrid and Barcelona to sign Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich next summer.
The 25-year-old joined the German giants on a loan deal in 2015 before permanently sealing a move in 2017. Injuries have marred his career, but he has still been able to rack up 217 appearances in the last half a decade, scoring 46 goals and providing 52 assists in the process.
He helped the Bavarians lift the UCL trophy in 2020, as he scored the winner in the final against PSG. However, he shall be out of contract in the summer of 2022. There are some disagreements about his wages, as he is demanding £17million-per-year while the Bundesliga club, albeit determined to keep him, are only willing to offer £13million-per-year.
This has put Man United on alert, with Ralf Rangnick keen on signing the former Juventus ace. The Red Devils are always on the prowl for exciting attack talent, and Coman certainly lives up to the billing. However, they shall have to beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to his signature as both Spanish clubs are keen on hiring his services to strengthen their respective squads.
Outgoings before incomings
The French international is an incredible talent and still has several years ahead of him. Thus, any club that does orchestrate a move for him is likely to benefit for a long time to come. However, Man United would be smart to offload some players before signing him.
Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani are out of contract in the summer and should be allowed to leave if they wish to do so. They are going to struggle for game-time and if consistent minutes is what they desire, the Red Devils need to let them go. Anthony Martial’s agent has also made it clear that his client wishes to leave Old Trafford.
Juan Mata is also likely to follow suit in the summer once his contract expires. Thus, once these players leave the club, Rangnick can effectively manage Coman’s gametime. But the exodus need not happen before signing the Frenchman. And with other suitors after him, it won’t be unwise to bring him in as soon as possible and sort out the future of other players later.

Although we will still have Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Mason Greenwood on the wings, having four wingers is beneficial for any top club competing on multiple fronts. Coman could finish the jigsaw and make us a real force. There is a lot to get excited about the PSG academy graduate, but it is important to clear out the dead weight before luring him to Manchester.
