Barcelona target 2023 January transfer for Manchester United ace Marcus Rashford due to contract expiry
According to the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (h/t ESPN), Barcelona are planning to move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford in the 2023 January transfer window. His current contract will expire at the end of the 2022-23 season, which has prompted Barca to plot a potential move.
Rashford has an option to extend the current deal by a year but the Blaugrana club are confident about luring him away next season. They would have targeted him next month or at the end of the current campaign but their financial issues have seriously put a question mark over that possibility.
That makes the idea of a 2023 January transfer more feasible as the Englishman would be available at a potentially cut-price deal. Previously, the striker had mentioned that he would entertain a move elsewhere only if Barcelona and Real Madrid are the destinations. He also has the option to extend his contract by an additional year at Old Trafford.
Doubtful
The La Liga club could use a proper centre-forward with Luuk de Jong and Martin Braithwaite being the only options. Sergio Aguero has recently retired, whereas Memphis Depay is seemingly the only top-class forward they can start week in, week out.
Those who have followed the Catalan giants would know that they are in an injury crisis that has seen their frontline suffer a lot. They need reinforcements sooner rather than later as they try to salvage their current season. But none of this should matter to us. We should look after our own best interests.
The England international is a valuable asset for us, however, as he is one of the brightest prospects to come up from the academy in recent years. Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo do not provide longevity, whereas Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard cannot be trusted to lead our line forever.

Mason Greenwood and Anthony Elanga are other options that would safeguard our future as we try to reach our glory days again. In such circumstances, it is hard to understand why we would want to offload a homegrown talent who happens to be one of the best in his position in England.
Being a homegrown talent, he has a great set-up to build his future around, and it would be rough for the fans to see him break that relationship with us. But until something more solid comes from the player or the interested parties indicating such a move, it’s not wise to keep obsessing over this news.
