Manchester United to battle several Premier League clubs for Feyenoord defender Marcos Senesi
According to 90Min.com (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are ready to battle several Premier League clubs for the services of Feyenoord centre-back Marcos Senesi. He is a fan favourite at his current club and has earned himself the nickname of “Gladiator”.
Senesi will see his contract with the Dutch club expire at the end of the 2022-23 season. Since the defender will be on the last year of his contract at the end of this campaign, he could be available at a discounted price compared to what it would have been previously.
Man United face competition from fellow PL clubs like West Ham United, Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa. It could lead to a bidding war if all the interested parties want to get the 24-year-old’s signature. The probabilities are high for that to happen considering his contract situation, which forces the Manchester club to be ready at all times.
Necessary?
The Argentinian has featured in 26 games this season and has scored once while assisting twice in the process. He also has helped his side to 13 clean sheets, which is a pretty good stat to possess as a centre-back. He can play on either side of the base of the defensive backline.
We could use some additions in that position looking at the defensive record this season. Phil Jones has reached a standstill and doesn’t seem like he can crack the starting XI on a regular basis anytime soon. Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof are inconsistent with their performances, although the latter has fared well in recent times under Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick.
Harry Maguire has had a tough season and has been on the receiving end of many criticisms whereas Raphael Varane has struggled with injury. It goes to show how having just 2 or 3 top defenders can be a tricky situation if one of them makes themself unavailable for selection.

However, no other information about this transfer has been made available so far, and with the winter transfer window nearing the horizon, we could see more updates in the coming days. Signing Senesi would be a wise move given his talent and age profile. It could provide us with an able defender that can give us several years of service down the line.
