Manchester United suffer Covid-19 outbreak with Brentford game in doubt
According to The Sun, Manchester United have suffered a Covid-19 outbreak in their camp, and it has put their midweek fixture against Brentford in doubt.
The Red Devils had positive lateral flow tests returned on a number of players recently, and the club has informed the Premier League about the same. This is increasingly worrying since Tottenham Hotspur suffered something similar a couple of days ago.
The North London club has had to cancel their games against Rennes and Brighton and Hove Albion. Man United played against Norwich on Saturday, and everybody tested negative before making the trip to Carrow Road.
However, a small number of players and staff members tested positive recently and had to be sent home from Carrington. The rest trained outdoors, but they had to undergo individual and non-contact sessions.
Massive problem
This is not the first time Man United have had a run-in with the disease. Dean Henderson tested positive in pre-season before Jesse Lingard also caught the bug. Mason Greenwood also suffered from the illness last month.
Victor Lindelof was seen clutching his chest in the game against Norwich and had problems breathing. But it is believed that it was not related to Covid. Regardless, the new Omicron variant is a massive worry, as it could put a stop to several sporting fixtures.
Moreover, it could eliminate fans from the stadium who have been asked to provide proof of a negative lateral flow test to enter into games with a capacity of more than 4000. Our side has more or less flourished in small parts this season, thanks to the relentless support inside Old Trafford.
Our players have fed off their energy, while their attendance is also important from a commercial perspective. Ticket sales are a part and parcel of the revenue of the club and if the games are not being played or there is a shortage of fans, it is a loss of income.

The main concern is for everybody to recover swiftly, but it remains to be seen whether Ralf Rangnick and co take the trip to Brentford for their Tuesday night fixture. It is truly sad to see how, more than a year and a half later, we may have to go through the same thing again.
Footballers, especially those playing European football with their clubs, travel more than regular individuals. They also interact a fair bit considering the incessant training sessions with each other. Perhaps this is a warning sign for the world to be more cautious again as the pandemic is clearly not over. For now, we wish all the players who have tested positive recover swiftly and quickly.
