Transfer News: Manchester United eye move for Aston Villa ace John McGinn
According to The Sun, Manchester United are interested in signing Aston Villa star John McGinn next summer.
The Red Devils stand a good chance to finish in the Top 4. The damage done by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the last two months could still be rectified. Ralf Rangnick has been entrusted with the job, and he could just pull it off. A deal for Amadou Haidara looks set to be done once his £32million release clause is paid in January.
However, the club is on the lookout for reinforcements to add to the squad next summer. Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard could leave the club once their contracts expire at the end of the season. Donny van de Beek also has an uncertain future at Old Trafford.
Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice have been touted as potential options. However, one more name that has caught the eye is Aston Villa ace, John McGinn. The Englishman has been brilliant in the last two seasons and has contributed to 4 goals in 13 league games this term.
A fine but expensive addition to the squad
Rangnick will assume a consultancy role after this season and could help bring in talented professionals to the club. McGinn qualifies for that as the club scouts admire his coolness on the ball.
The Scot also plays a high pressing style, something the German boss knows a thing or two about. Thus, he is talented and is playing some of his best football right now during his peak years. However, these might also be the reasons for him to cost us a fortune.
Man United were interested in the player in 2019 too, but Villa wanted £50million for him. They are likely to want more now as the 27-year-old’s stock has risen and since he also has three and a half years left on his contract.
Regardless, we as fans can only care so much about transfer fees as long as it doesn’t hinder the club’s financial health and long-term well-being. Quality can cost money and with McGinn having ample Premier League experience for a sturdy club like Villa, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to have him with us in the near future.

Hence, the club will need to evaluate their options and look at the strength of the squad in the summer before approaching the player. Sir Alex Ferguson is also a fan of his fellow countryman, but it remains to be seen whether that plays a role in McGinn coming to the Theatre of Dreams.
We already have a fine Scotsman in Scott McTominay but if there are outgoings in the midfield area under Rangnick, signings to replace them would not be a bad idea. If a deal is financially viable and if our club is actually serious about signing him, then there aren’t many fans who would oppose a move.
