Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick opens up on his previous meetings with Sir Alex Ferguson
Ralf Rangnick has admitted that he is excited to see Sir Alex Ferguson after taking over the managerial role at Manchester United on an interim basis. After officially getting announced this week, he will open his account for the Red Devils against Crystal Palace on Sunday in the Premier League.
Rangnick and Ferguson first encountered each other during the Champions League semifinal between the Red Devils and Schalke in the 2010-11 season. United emphatically won the tie after securing 4-1 and 2-0 wins in the home and away fixtures respectively.
Speaking in an interview with MUTV (h/t Metro), the German explained how the club legend invited him to a glass of wine after the game. He added how they met for a second time at an event in 2015 where they had dinner. It is fair to say that the frequency of them getting together can only increase now.
“We spoke after the second leg here. He invited me into his office at Old Trafford in the stadium. He enjoyed the glass of wine more than I did because we had no chance whatsoever in that game. That was the first meeting, the first time I met Sir Alex.”
Rangnick is keen to link up with the Scottish legend. We daresay they will pop a bottle of champagne come to the end of the current season. The German is one of the best visionaries of his generation and has the right credentials to turn the club’s fortunes around.
“I’m very much looking forward to meeting him in the next couple of weeks.”
A meeting to look forward to
It is interesting to think about how the meeting would fare when the duo meets next time. Considering the vast influence they have had in football, it would be a conversation to look forward to. It would also help the 63-year-old get acquainted with the club’s ways with the help of the Red Devils legend.

If the German coach wants to make any changes at the club, he could use the help of Sir Alex’s influence to get what he desires. Drastic changes are necessary at Old Trafford, especially with the way we have regressed over the past years, and going by what the interim manager has done at his previous clubs, it would not be far fetched to think so.
