Manchester United set to appoint Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher as interim managers with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sack ‘imminent’
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (h/t The Sun), Manchester United shall hire Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher as interim managers after delivering the sack to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
There was a lot of uncertainty surrounding the future of Solskjaer over the past couple of weeks. He was bound to be sacked, and the defeat to Watford has only accelerated the process.
Moreover, he might have forced their hand after conceding 4 goals to a 17th placed side in the league. The 48-year-old has previously refused to step down, but that trick will not work now.
One way or the other, the Norwegian shall not be at the helm anymore. A decision is expected to be made soon, and the club shall part ways with the former striker. But instead of immediately appointing a replacement, they shall hire interim managers.
Michael Carrick, who is a part of the coaching setup, is set to be one of the interim bosses. Technical director, Darren Fletcher, shall join Carrick in this short-term project. The former players have 806 appearances for the Red Devils and understand the DNA of the club.
Additionally, they already know the players they are working with. The duo is apparently awaiting a decision from The Glazers before they can take charge. But it looks like they shall be in the dugout for the upcoming crunch tie against Villarreal on Tuesday.

A permanent replacement could also be found soon, as United are eyeing to appoint Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman has won two La Liga titles while he also lifted three successive Champions League trophies with Real Madrid.
In fact, he also has previous experience of working with Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane. However, only time will tell whether the 49-year-old is open to joining the Old Trafford outfit, given the current state of the club.
