Team News: Manchester United fringe star Donny van de Beek likely to start against Watford
According to The Mirror, Manchester United ace, Donny van de Beek could be handed his first league start of the season against Watford on Saturday.
It is no secret that the 24-year-old has suffered for game-time this season. He was afforded only four league starts last season but still managed to make 36 appearances across all competitions. But that has not been the case this campaign, as he is yet to start a game.
His situation has been so dire that lack of minutes has cost him a place in the Dutch squad. However, it looks like the midfielder’s time might have come now as the coaches are considering starting him against Watford on the weekend.
Van de Beek has impressed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his coaching staff in training sessions. His progress has been sound, while it is also about time, he is handed a start. Additionally, Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay are recovering from illness, whereas Fred might be tired after his commute to Brazil.
Fatigue is an important factor to consider, given that United have crunch games after the trip to Vicarage Road. The Dutch international has played very little football and is keen on proving his £40million price tag.
In fact, the fans are also buzzing to see him. There was a sarcastic cheer when he came on in the final minutes against Man City. It was a message to Solskjaer to play the midfielder more often.

Moreover, Van de Beek has performed when he has been afforded chances. He played a role in the comeback against Atalanta as his pressing led to the equalizer. In fact, he could be a vital asset for the club in the UCL fixtures, given his experience in the competition from his Ajax days.
Regardless, his focus shall have to be on facing the Hornets on the weekend. A victory will do a world of good for the manager and the players but it needs to be a convincing performance.
