Transfer News: Manchester United open to signing RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo if his Barcelona move fails
According to El Nacional (h/t The Metro), Manchester United are ready to sign RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo if his move to Barcelona falls by the way-side, with the player open to an Old Trafford move as a ‘plan B’.
The 23-year-old has had a topsy turvy career so far. The youngster was a La Masia graduate but moved to Dinamo Zagreb at age 16. After an impressive five years in Croatia, Leipzig snapped him up in January 2020.
Since joining, Olmo has scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists in 67 appearances. His stats would have been slightly better, but he has missed the better part of this season due to injury. However, he is now being targeted by Barcelona as they begin their new era under Xavi.
The former Spanish international wants to bring some attacking talent to the Nou Camp. A deal for the Leipzig star was on the cards until they started considering signing Raheem Sterling from Man City.
The attacking midfielder does not wish to move to Catalonia if they prioritise another player over him or make him feel like he is not wanted there. In such a scenario, the Spanish winger would be open to joining Man United, with the German club willing to let their star leave irrespective of his destination.
The Red Devils are aware that the playmaker prefers a move to the Nou Camp. But they are ready to pounce for his signature if that deal fails to go through. Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba could depart Old Trafford after their contracts expire next summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cannot have two of his creators leaving the club without signing a replacement. Olmo could fill in that role and add to the quality in the ranks.
Thus, if Barcelona do not wish to sign the La Masia graduate, United are ready to capitalise.
