Transfer News: Manchester United enquire about the possibility of signing Sevilla star Jules Kounde
According to transfer news on Estadio Deportivo (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have enquired about the possibility of signing Sevilla star Jules Kounde.
The recently turned 23-year-old has been exquisite at the back for the Spanish club in recent seasons. His stellar defensive performances helped Sevilla win the UEFA Europa League in 2020, and little has changed this season.
The Julen Lopetegui-led side have the best defence in La Liga this campaign, having conceded only seven goals. Kounde has been a huge reason for this defensive record, and he has caught the attention of several clubs.
The Frenchman was close to signing for Chelsea in the summer, but that deal failed to go through. However, the Blues could be interested in orchestrating a deal for him next summer as well.
But they shall not be alone in this chase. Man United apparently wanted to sign two defenders in the summer but only ended up bringing in Raphael Varane. Their defence has been anything but ideal this campaign, keeping only two clean sheets in 16 games across all competitions.
Harry Maguire does not look like his old self, and Varane needs a top-quality partner alongside him. Kounde already shares a partnership with his national compatriot after the duo helped Les Bleus win the UEFA Nations League last month.
