Transfer News: Manchester United could beat Chelsea in the transfer race for Jules Kounde

According to transfer news from Todo Fichajes (h/t CaughtOffside), Manchester United could swoop in on Sevilla defender Jules Kounde by taking advantage of Chelsea’s ownership saga.

Kounde has been one of the most exciting young defenders globally, as he has mesmerised everyone with his exceptional performance in recent seasons. In the 40 games he featured for Sevilla, the Frenchman has shown top-notch maturity and helped the Spanish club get through the line several times.

The 23-year-old has been a transfer target of Chelsea for quite some time. Considering the Blues’ prominent defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are set to be out of contract at the end of the current season, they were eyeing the Frenchman as an immediate reinforcement.

But now, it is believed that the club’s change in ownership has put their transfer approach towards Kounde in significant doubt. As long as the Blues’ ownership scenario doesn’t revert to normality, there is heavy uncertainty on player transfers.

It seems the Red Devils are eyeing to take advantage of Chelsea’s ownership problems by making a move for the French ace.

An advantage for Manchester United?

Manchester United’s performance in this campaign has been disappointing, to say the least, and one reason for the horrible display could be the recurring blunders made by the team’s defensive unit.

Man United defender Harry Maguire has been entirely below average throughout the season, which has affected the overall output of the defence contingent. Despite bringing in four-time Champions League winner Raphaël Varane, the Red Devils’ defence has looked shaky even against weaker opponents.

Apart from the two aforementioned defenders, Man United doesn’t have a lot of quality backup options available either. Victor Lindelöf seems to have passed his best years. On the other hand, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones remain less used alternatives.

Having Jules Kounde would change the dynamics of the team as it would ensure competition for the sarong XI spot. Players would be more motivated to show effort in games after discovering that their position is not secure.

Kounde could make a career leap with United.

Even though Kounde doesn’t have any experience playing in the Premier League, the Frenchman has played in one of the toughest leagues in Europe, La Liga and has featured in Champions League matches as well. Being only 23-year-old, he would be able to guarantee several peak year performances.

It remains to be seen when Man United launches their first genuine transfer approach regarding the signing of Kounde. Chelsea’s in-house problems are an advantage for our team, but that doesn’t mean our board would be able to lower the fee from Sevilla’s demanded €65million.
