Transfer News: Newcastle United ahead of competition to sign Manchester United star Donny van de Beek in January
According to transfer news on The Sun (h/t Manchester Evening News), Newcastle United are the favourites to sign Manchester United star Donny van de Beek in January.
The 24-year-old was shining in Europe’s premier competition during his time at Ajax. There were few doubts about his talent, and the club that landed his signature had a good shot at benefitting out of the deal.
Man United tried their hand at it and shelled out £35million to get him to England. However, since bringing him to Old Trafford, he has not been afforded chances. Van de Beek can only do so much but without opportunities, the best shall fail to impress.
He only received four league starts last season despite performing when he was called upon. It has been the same story this season, and the midfielder might push for a move soon.
In fact, the former Ajax man also has suitors. Newcastle are thought to be leading the race to land his signature as they look to begin their new era.
The Toon Army are yet to win a league game this season and also sacked Steve Bruce recently. However, Eddie Howe has been appointed since, and the cash-rich Geordies might want a taste of some of the fringe stars from top clubs.

In fact, they were previously interested in the player but could not orchestrate a deal. But they are not going to waste any time in doing so now. The Magpies are ready to take a run at the Dutch international in January as they look to avoid relegation.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer understands the importance of squad depth. He might not let a star player leave, especially one that could prove key towards the back-end of the season. Thus, something has to give, but only time will tell where the Dutchman plays his football in 2022.
