Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag brushes off Manchester United links amidst calls to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Speaking in an interview (h/t The Express), Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag has ruled out a move to Manchester United amidst calls to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Red Devils have suffered one blow after the other this campaign. They signed the best players in the market but have not made the best use of them. They are 6th in the league, out of the EFL Cup, and in a shaky position in the Champions League despite being top of their group.
Understandably so, there has been speculation surrounding the future of Solskjaer. If he is sacked by the board, there are few options for his replacements. Mauricio Pochettino and Brendan Rodgers appear to be the frontrunners, but Erik Ten Hag could also be in the mix.
However, the latter has now ruled out any potential move by claiming that he is happy at Ajax.
“I live in the present, so I find it hard to answer this. I always want to improve my team, and as long as I feel this motivation, I want to keep going if Ajax wants that too.”
He also explained why he did not join Newcastle United.
“Because I am happy at Ajax. I have a very good relationship with the board, and I’m managing a very strong squad.”

Ten Hag came into the spotlight after he led the Dutch club to a Champions League semi-final in 2019. His sides comprise of talented youngsters and experienced professionals. This blend would have made him a good option to replace Solskjaer at Old Trafford.
However, Rodgers has also done a great job at Leicester, leading them to an FA Cup victory and two successive fifth-place finishes in the league. Pochettino excelled in his time at Tottenham and is working with the biggest names currently at PSG. Both remain possible options, but it remains to be seen who shall take over from Solskjaer if the Norwegian does end up being sacked in the future.
