Newcastle United interested in pursuing Manchester United midfielders Jesse Lingard and Donny van de Beek
According to SunSport (h/t The Sun), Newcastle United may be interested in signing fringe Manchester United players Jesse Lingard and Donny van de Beek. With Eddie Howe now in charge, they will be keen to stave off relegation first.
The Tyneside-based club are currently placed in 19th position in the Premier League table. Despite their horrendous start to the season, the supporters are in high spirits after the recent Saudi-led takeover of the club. This has created an aura of anticipation and optimism at St James’ Park.
The Toons could be in the market for the midfield duo of Lingard and van de Beek. The English international enjoyed a great loan spell with West Ham United last season. Despite his splendid displays at the London Stadium, he has found it difficult to nail down a regular playing spot in the Man United first-team. Lingard is also being linked with a return to the West London club after a lack of opportunities at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman on the other hand has struggled to get a regular run of play at Old Trafford. Ever since making the switch from Ajax Amsterdam, he has mostly been relegated to the bench as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opted for a double pivot of Fred and Scott McTominay most of the time.
Dan James who made the switch to Leeds United in August this year has more minutes for Manchester United under his belt this campaign as compared to both of these midfielders. This disturbing fact highlights the struggles that the Manchester United academy graduate and former Ajax player are facing at the Theatre of Dreams.
The Magpies could be looking for a rebuild and these fringe players could be the perfect options. Both of them have proven themselves on the big stage at other clubs. The prospect of more game time could be the substantial reason to lure them away from the red side of Manchester.

While Eddie Howe has proven to be a promising manager and Newcastle United could be a great upcoming project, there is still a long way to go for the Toons.
Whether Lingard and Van de Beek are willing to take a risk and move a current level down in order to garner more playtime remains to be seen.
