Transfer News: Atalanta United overcome Manchester United in the race to sign Thiago Almada
According to transfer news on The Atalanta Journal-Constitution (h/t The Mirror), Atalanta United have beaten Manchester United to the signing of Velez Sarsfield ace Thiago Almada.
The 20-year-old attacker has been producing eye-catching performance over the last couple of years in the Argentina Primera Division. This has seen him dubbed as the ‘new Messi’ due to his playing style that is similar to that of the Paris Saint-Germain maestro. His displays had caught the attention of Man United as well as Man City.
The Red Devils have not gotten off to the best of starts this campaign and might have been pondering over adding reinforcements in January. Jesse Lingard could depart in the winter transfer window, and getting another attacker through the door would be a clever decision.
Moreover, at 20, Almada could have developed at Old Trafford and become a world-class player in the years to come. However, it has now been revealed that the player had sorted out a move to MLS club Atalanta United a few months ago.
The youngster is set to sign a four-year contract with the American outfit and recently revealed how the move worked out. Everything appears to have bene settled months ago.
“[The Atlanta United move] almost happened a few months, but it was delayed. Everything is on track for December or January. I thought about it with my family and my representative. We decided that if the move happens, we will sign and go.”
