Ed Woodward is reluctant to sack Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite calamitous performances
According to The Athletic (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward is not keen on sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite dire displays.
The Red Devils have not fared well this season despite ploughing in a lot of cash over the summer. Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Raphael Varane were added to the squad, but the club is yet to reap the collective dividend from this investment.
Big things were expected of Solskjaer after finishing 2nd in the Premier League and securing a place in the UEFA Europa League final. Unfortunately, that is not how the situation has panned out, and after poor results against rivals Liverpool and Man City, the Norwegian gaffer could be facing the sack.
Luckily for him, chief executive Ed Woodward is not too keen on doing so. The 49-year-old announced in April that he would be leaving the club but the exact date of his departure was never made clear.
As things stand, his eight-year contract is set to expire at the end of this calendar year. Thus, United shall have a new man running things behind the scene at the start of 2022.
However, until then, it does not look like there is going to be a managerial change as Woodward is reluctant to sack yet another manager during his tenure. David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, and Jose Mourinho have been fired since 2013, and the former head of commercial operations is not planning on adding the Norwegian to this list.

Alternatively, it is thought that the lack of alternatives is going to keep United’s gaffer at the job, especially after Antonio Conte also joined Tottenham Hotspur. (h/t Daily Star).
Thus, with Woodward reluctant on sacking him and the lack of a ‘Plan B’, it looks like Solskjaer is going to stay at Old Trafford despite the disastrous performances.
