Blow for Manchester United as Erik Ten Hag does not want to leave Ajax mid-season
According to the Independent (h/t Express), Erik Ten Hag is averse to leaving Ajax Amsterdam mid-season even if Manchester United were to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Ten Hag took charge of the Dutch club in 2017 and has won two Eredivisie titles in that time. He also took them to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2019 which was their most memorable run in recent times. They were inches from playing into the final but a superb hat-trick from Lucas Moura on the day resulted in an aching heartbreak.
The 51-year-old manager has worked well with a small budget and created an exciting brand of football. He was being scouted for the managerial role at Tottenham Hotspur but his affiliation and love for de Godenzonen. The Dutch manager has a little over 18 months left on his current contract at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.
Ole has been at the wheel for a long time now with little to show for it. The Norwegian manager hasn’t won a single major trophy with Man United as a manager. The lack of intensity and game plan has disrupted the supporters in recent weeks. The Red Devils tepid displays against the bigger clubs this season hasn’t helped his cause.
The Old Trafford outfit added some splendid names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Raphael Varane in the last transfer window. Despite these exciting additions Man United have struggled to get a grip of the game in the last few matches. Their defence has been in disarray at times.
Ajax are flying high this season in the Eredivise as well as the Champions League. The Dutch team have adopted a possession-based high-intensity game which is diametrically opposed to the current brand of football at Old Trafford. The fans would be yearning to see some of that exciting football consistently.

It is highly unlikely that Ten Hag would make the switch to the Manchester-based club but it feels as though Ole’s job is in an even more precarious state with every match that goes by. The board may be tempted to replace him sooner rather than later if the squad doesn’t start improving consistently.
