Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford opts out of the England squad to focus on regaining full fitness
According to the Daily Mail, the England FA have announced that Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford will not be available to feature for the country in their upcoming international fixtures.
The 24-year-old has struggled to maintain his fitness after going through shoulder surgery at the start of the season. Rashford has played an instrumental role in this Man United team but is still to regain full fitness. He was used as a substitute in the loss to Manchester City on the weekend.
Fellow Red Devil teammate Luke Shaw also suffered a head injury against the Citizens and has been temporarily ruled out from the English national squad. The Manchester-based club have been suffering as his fellow teammates Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood have found it tough to get going in the last few fixtures.
The intensity seems to have dropped off at times and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could definitely use someone with Rashford’s explosive pace and caliber in the frontline. The Norwegian manager tried to tweak his system in the last few games but it hasn’t provided any substantial dividends.
This statement from the England FA highlights the players that would be missing from the squad in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers:
‘However, Marcus Rashford, James Ward-Prowse, Mason Mount, and Luke Shaw have not reported for international duty. Rashford will remain with Manchester United in order to concentrate on regaining full fitness.’
Emile Smith Rowe has been given a call-up for Gareth Southgate’s England squad after impressing with Arsenal this season. The 21-year-old is certainly making heads turn with his performances off late. The Gunner have slowly but surely ensured that their campaign is on the right track.
In contrast, the Red Devils have been all over the place at times and humiliating defeats to major rivals have brewed a lot of resentment amongst the fans. There have been mixed opinions on the 48-year-old Norwegian manager and a cloud of uncertainty looms around his immediate future with the club.
