Paul Scholes takes aim at Manchester United ace Aaron wan-Bissaka after Man City defeat
Speaking to Premier League Productions (h/t The Metro), Paul Scholes launched a rant at Manchester United star Aaron wan-Bissaka after the defeat to Man City in the Manchester derby.
The Etihad outfit took home all the plaudits on the day as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men failed to turn up in what was one of the most important games of the season for the club. The thrashing by Liverpool was a wake-up call, but none of the players showed any fight in yet another big game against the club’s arch-rivals.
Wan-Bissaka, who was starting to look comfortable in the right-wing back area could not produce the same level of performance as his counterpart, Joao Cancelo, who set up City’s two goals on the night. The Englishman defended to the best of his abilities but was poor in the attacking phase of the game.
Paul Scholes launched a scathing rant on the player after the game. The United legend has a poor opinion of the right-back’s attacking prowess and believes it showed on the night. Scholes told Premier League Productions (h/t The Metro):
‘The conviction has to come from the coach of the way you’re going to play football… Stop messing about changing it for everyone else… I said before the 3-5-2 doesn’t suit the players in the team. Wan Bissaka is useless on the ball, brilliant defender but useless on the ball at right-back.’
Gary Neville, in turn, reiterated that United missed Edinson Cavani dearly after the striker was ruled out with a tendon injury a day before the game. Neville told Sky Sports (h/t The Metro):
‘Every time I see Manchester United out there without Cavani, they are less of a team. He just seems to go out there and have the fight to play for the club and sort of spirit on the pitch that you epitomise with it.’

The performance, in all honesty, was dire, and perhaps even Cavani could not have done a lot because the Red Devils lack the cohesiveness in a press. It has been two years since Wan-Bissaka joined the club but he is yet to produce an encouraging attacking display and it is now hurting the way United go forward.
Solskjaer used the back-three formation again, but his players are now finding it hard to execute the tactics on the pitch, especially against the big teams. The Norwegian has plenty to ponder over during the international break.
