Speaking to This is Futbol, Ex-Premier League ace Carlton Palmer believes Jesse Lingard is surplus to requirements at Manchester United amidst transfer interest from Newcastle United and West Ham.
The 28-year-old attacking midfielder fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford last season, but showed his quality during the second half of the campaign with a stellar campaign at West Ham, as he bagged nine goals and provided 5 assists in 16 appearances.
Those contributions saw the Hammers achieve UEFA Europa League qualification this season, and David Moyes tried to lure the Englishman out of Manchester this summer.
However, Lingard stood his ground and remained at his boyhood club. That move has not worked out well for him as he has only managed 8 appearances this season and is yet to make a Premier League start for the Red Devils.
The English international now has a little over six months on his current contract at the Manchester-based outfit and it is thought that he has previously rejected an extension as he wanted assurances of game-time. Ex-Premier League ace Carlton Palmer has now claimed that the attacker is a surplus to requirements under Solskjaer. He told This is Futbol:
“I think there are no two ways about this, Jesse Lingard is surplus to requirements at Manchester United. I think they would have let him go last season. He’s not going to play regular first-team football at Man United, he knows that the club knows that. “
