Marco Asensio is linked with a move to Manchester United amidst interest from other Premier League rivals

According to El Nacional (h/t ESPN), Real Madrid superstar Marco Asensio is eyed by Manchester United amidst competition from other Premier League rivals. The forward was subjected to similar interest back in the summer but with no result.

The Spaniard was bought from Real Mallorca for just over £3.15 million, which seemed a steal back in 2015. While he has done more than what was paid for, his influence in the team has waned over time.

Following the serious knee injury, he has not been able to hit the same heights that he did in the past. While he has scored three goals and proved an assist in just 305 minutes this season, it is clear that he is not favoured.

Having started just three matches in the 2021-22 season, Asensio is struggling to get minutes under Carlo Ancelotti. His current contract at Santiago Bernabeu is also said to expire in the summer of 2023.

As a result, Florentino Perez is claimed to be open to selling him fearful of his dropping market value. With Vinicius Junior’s rise under Ancelotti, it is unlikely that the 25-year-old will be able to break into the starting lineup.

It is suggested that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, who were interested in him in the summer, will be back to compete with the Red Devils. With his contract expiring, Madrid could look to move him on for a solid fee, in the coming transfer windows.

Considering their recent troubles, a balance is needed in the squad which calls for a defensive midfielder. It remains to be seen how this link develops in the future as with time circumstances would also change.
