Cristiano Ronaldo still behind Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite sack calls
According to the Manchester Evening News (h/t Daily Mail), Cristiano Ronaldo is rallying the Manchester United dressing room to get behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite criticism.
Good things were expected to come out of the red half of Manchester when their Portuguese legend re-signed for them on the deadline day of the summer transfer window. However, instead, the 36-year-old has often been at the end of pulling the club out of tight holes.
Ronaldo popped up to score the winner against Villarreal last month while his Champions League heroics were on show against Atalanta as well recently. Thus, the experienced forward has come to the aide of his former compatriot quite a few times and is doing so again.
After the Red Devils were smashed 5-0 by Liverpool, crunch talks were held at Carrington over the future of the manager.
In fact, a squad meeting was also held two days after the 4-2 Leicester City defeat as some players did not hold back and questioned Solskjaer on several glaring issues, according to The Times (subscription required) (h/t Daily Mail).
However, despite all of this, the former Juventus striker is fully behind the manager and is now holding the dressing room together as he has asked players to ‘not down tools’ and ‘maintain standards.’

Links regarding a new manager were popping up, but senior United sources denied any contact with any manager after Antonio Conte expressed his interest in the job. However, Brendan Rodgers is said to be admired by the club, as is Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag.
Regardless, Ronaldo can now help his gaffer save his job by producing performances against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Atalanta as they could go a long way in convincing the hierarchy that the Norwegian is the right man for the job.
