Manchester United shortlist three transfer targets as they face immense pressure after the defeat against Liverpool

According to Caught Offside (h/t TEAMtalk), Manchester United have shortlisted Nicolo Barella, Federico Chiesa and Kieran Trippier as transfer targets following their disappointing 5-0 loss at the hands of bitter rivals Liverpool.

The Red Devils are targeting a triple swoop as they want to improve multiple positions within the squad. It is said that they are eyeing a right-back, a midfielder and a winger to raise the level of the squad.

The United board and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are facing backlash after the heavy defeat and it is suggested that there have been talks within the dressing room as well. Ole is claimed to be fighting for his job as this was in the making for a while.

The Inter Milan midfielder has been a key player this season having played all games in Seria A. Chiesa, who is a teammate of Barella for Italy, is also on the radar of the Manchester club having scored twice and assisting once in ten league games.

Lastly, Trippier has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford to add more quality on the right side. They are supposed to be targeted to ‘fix’ various issues within the squad which was highlighted against Liverpool.

Lack of midfield balance, lack of organisation in pressing are some of the issues which were seen in the game. While Solskjaer has a part in the problem, the squad also leads to the issues created within the team.

The English club signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho in the summer which raised the expectation for the season. Naturally, the pressure created at the moment is the result of that expectation. If United want to truly compete, there needs to be quality and balance across all sections within the team.
