Manchester United believe PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is the ideal replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
According to the Daily Star (h/t The Express), PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is thought to have growing support amongst the Manchester United hierarchy to become the replacement to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The 49-year-old had a glowing time in the Premier League with Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur as he led the latter to a Champions League final in 2019. His coaching methods and ability to churn the best out of his players was often admired by Spurs fans.
However, a little-known fact was that the Argentinian was the frontrunner for the United job after the Red Devils sacked Jose Mourinho in December 2018. But Solskjaer’s encouraging performances as interim boss kept him at the helm of things permanently.
Pochettino was sacked by Spurs towards the end of 2019 and became the head coach at PSG earlier this year. However, despite his big project at the French club, there is said to be growing support amongst the Old Trafford hierarchy for the former Tottenham man to take over the red-half of Manchester.
Crunch talks were held recently between Richard Arnold and Joel Glazer over the future of their Norwegian manager, but the intervention of senior players has bought Solskjaer some time.
The board are apparently trying to take some time to evaluate the future of their 48-year-old head coach and also find the proper candidates to replace him in the same period.

Sacking the manager after offering him a new contract earlier this summer would not paint a pretty picture for the club, and thus, they are avoiding making an abrupt decision. The Argentine manager still, however, remains high on their shortlist.
Regardless, luring Pochettino out of the French capital is expected to be an expensive effort but given that the likes of Antonio Conte and Zinedine Zidane are also available, some tough decisions may soon be made at Old Trafford.
